Privacy note

In short: your password never reaches us, once you connect your list stays in this browser (when you just browse a list, no copy of it is stored), and we only write to MyAnimeList the changes you ask for: status, episodes watched, "rewatching", watch dates, rewatch count, and your score when you change it in the app. No ads, no analytics, no tracking cookies.

What we read

  • When you browse a list without logging in: the public anime list of the MyAnimeList username you enter. For each anime: title, status, episodes watched, score, rewatch info and MAL's anime data (genres, episode count, dates, cover). The list is read through the official MyAnimeList API, with the app's own client ID, via our server.
  • When you log in with MyAnimeList: in addition, your account's user name and ID, to recognise your session. When you open your own list, your login token is used on our server to read it, so it works even if the list is private on MAL. Any other list (someone else's, or one you browse without logging in) is read only as a public list by user name.
  • The covers behind the login screen come from MyAnimeList's popular anime ranking; they are nobody's list.

What we write

Only if you logged in with MyAnimeList and change something in the app ("watched", Complete, Undo, Add to my list). The change first goes into a queue in this browser, then is sent to MAL.

  • Written: watch status, episodes watched, rewatching.
  • Watch dates (can be switched off in Settings): the day you mark the first episode is the start date, the day you finish the last episode with +1 is the finish date. A date already on MAL is never overwritten; bulk "Complete" writes no dates. Undo takes a written date back too.
  • Rewatch count (can be switched off in Settings): when you finish a rewatch with the last episode, the count on MAL goes up by 1.
  • "Add to my list": if the anime is not on your list it is added as "Plan to Watch". If it is already there, nothing is written.
  • "Remove from my list": if an anime is on your list only as "Plan to Watch" with nothing watched, scored, dated or noted, and you remove it in the app, it is deleted from your MyAnimeList list. It is checked on MyAnimeList first: if the anime's status has changed there, or has a note or tags, nothing is deleted. Nothing else is ever deleted.
  • Score (1-10): written only when you give or change a score in the app, and never over a newer score already on MAL. Notes and tags are never written.
  • Without logging in, nothing is ever written to MyAnimeList.

Where data lives

  • In this browser (localStorage): while connected to MyAnimeList, a copy of your list, your user name, the last sync time, changes waiting to be sent to MAL, a few view preferences (including your language) and whether the first-run screen was seen; for the app owner's own list, also a watch history (for statistics). Even without logging in, a cache of series and airing info from AniList and cover colours is kept. When you browse a list without logging in, the list copy, user name, statuses and watch progress are not stored; the list only lives in memory while the page is open.
  • On the server: no user's list is stored; there is no database. The server passes MyAnimeList and AniList requests through and keeps a short-lived memory cache (search results, AniList info, the logged-in account's name); these are not written to disk. The hosting provider's standard access logs may keep the request address (including the user name you enter when browsing a list) for a short time.
  • On MyAnimeList: the real copy of your list. The app reads everything from there; there is no other cloud copy. If that changes, this note is updated first.

Who else it goes to

  • MyAnimeList: reading the list, login and the writes you ask for. Cover images are loaded by your browser directly from cdn.myanimelist.net.
  • AniList: for "Has a sequel", new season and airing info, the MAL IDs of the anime on your list are sent to AniList through our server. Your user name is not sent.
  • Issue reports: if you send the "Report an issue" form, the text you wrote, the page you came from and browser info are added as one row to the developer's Google Sheet. Nothing else is sent.
  • No ad network, analytics or social-media tools. The font is served from this site's own server.

Cookies

Set only when you log in with MyAnimeList. All are httpOnly (page code cannot read them), SameSite=Lax, Secure on HTTPS, and sent only with requests to /api/mal:

  • MyAnimeList access and refresh tokens, for up to 31 days;
  • a 10-minute verification cookie during login.

No cookies when you are not logged in.

Password

Your MyAnimeList password never reaches us. You log in on MyAnimeList's own page (OAuth); we only receive the token MAL gives, and it stays in the httpOnly cookies above.

Deleting your data

  • Account menu → Sign out: cookies are deleted; the list copy on this device, your user name and changes waiting to be sent to MAL are deleted (you are warned first if changes are waiting). You can also remove the permission in the connected-apps list of your MyAnimeList account settings.
  • Settings → This device → Clear cache: the list copy and last sync time on this device are deleted; if you are not connected to MyAnimeList, your user name is deleted too and you return to the start screen. Changes waiting to be sent to MAL are not deleted. For everything else (queue, caches) use your browser's "clear site data".
  • Your list on MyAnimeList is not affected by any of this.
  • There is no list stored about you on the server. If MyAnimeList asks for any content to be removed, it is removed within 24 hours.
